Student-Faculty Programs
The Student-Faculty
Programs office at Caltech administers several summer undergraduate
research fellowship programs.
SURF—Summer
Undergraduate Research Fellowships
SURF is
a ten-week summer research program designed to introduce students to the
research enterprise under the guidance of seasoned research mentors at Caltech
or JPL. SURF is modeled on the grant-seeking process and as such students
collaborate with potential mentors to define and develop a project; applicants
write research proposals for their projects; a faculty committee reviews the
proposals and recommends awards; students carry out the work from mid- June
to late August; and at the conclusion of the program, they submit a technical
paper and give an oral presentation at SURF Seminar Day.
Amgen Scholars
Caltech's
Amgen Scholars program introduces students to research under the guidance
of seasoned research mentors. Students experience the process of research
as a creative intellectual activity. Amgen Scholarships will be offered in
biology and biology-related fields.
JPL
JPL's Higher
Education Group facilitates interactions among colleges and universities
(including Caltech) and NASA's Education Office to develop and administer
educational programs and research opportunities promoting deeper understanding
of the NASA mission by all participants, with the goal of inspiring many
of them to pursue related careers or projects in science, engineering, and
technology.
Career Development Center
The Career
Development Center prepares students and postdoctoral scholars to launch
satisfying careers through individualized, quality programs and services.
Fellowships and Study Abroad
Our Fellowships
and Study Abroad Office helps Caltech undergraduate and graduate
students seek out information on, and apply for a wide variety of highly competitive
fellowships for study both in the U.S. and abroad.
Alumni Association LinkedIn
Alumni and
select other members of the Caltech community (including students and
postdocs) register directly with LinkedIn and then have access to the Caltech
Alumni group. LinkedIn is an online networking site that helps you find inside
connections to jobs, industry experts and business partners.
Academics and Research Committee (ARC)
The Academics
and Research Committee serves as an objective liaison between students
and faculty, to facilitate effective communication, and to improve the quality
of learning at Caltech.
Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR)
The Council
on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and its affiliated colleges, universities,
and individuals share a focus on providing undergraduate research opportunities
for faculty and students at predominantly undergraduate institutions.
National Conferences on Undergraduate
Research (NCUR)
The National
Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), established in 1987, is
dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity
in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students.
Southern California Conferences for Undergraduate Research
(SCCUR)
The Southern
California Conferences for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) is an organization
of Southern California faculty, administrators, and interested
members of the community who share the common goal of improving education for
college and university students through hands-on experiences
of undergraduate
research, scholarship, and creative activity.
